New feature; Cast Credits
Some people have been mentioning that it's not always easy to tell who everyone is, and have been having a hard time keeping track of the characters.
One of them went a step further and suggested a solution. I've decided to use it.
As such, I've started a second blog. That blog will contain entries for each and every major character used on this one. I will link the entries for various characters at the beginings of chapters.
For a demonstration of this, I've already written an entry for the current protagonist, Krell. That entry is now linked on all relevant chapters; I will follow up soon with his partner, Rea. I may eventually do back entries, but for now I will probably just do it for new ones.

Back
Yea, I'm finally back.
To sum things up; NaNoWriMo will definitely be an annual event for me. I enjoyed the experience, and I'm going to keep working on the novel I wrote for it until it becomes publishable.
But not here, this blog shall reamin my writing for the heck of it place.
Because all that serious writing just takes it out of you, so sometimes (most of the time) you need to just relax and do something silly.

Still here
Yeah, it's been a while, and I promise to get back to this when I finish up the novel.
Which, I have decided, will not be uploaded to the blog. I'm going to give it some polishing and if I can't get it published, which I hope to at least try, then, and only then, I will upload it chapter by chapter.
That said, it makes writing this look really, really, really, realy, ridiculously easy by comparison. I can't see doing it every month, I would get nothing else done. For one thing, the pacing is different. Instead of thinking, I want to right a chapter today, and I'll keep writing until I decide the story is ready to end; I've had to write a set amount a day, and figure out how to keep the story going until I reach that minimum fifty thousand words. It means more descriptions, more internalized thought, and holding out on explaining things even if I really want to just say it and start coming up with a new thing to explain.
It will definitely affect my writing style.
It's also creatively exhaustive. I think I may spend my sparse December writing doing simple short stories or bits of fanfiction to help me relax.

NaNoWriMo Entrant!
Starting on Monday, the first of November, I will be attmepting to write a 50,000 word novel. The deadline is the end of November. Considering my past problems with deadlines, I expect to find this extremely challenging. That said, I'm going to give it my all and will be spending much of the weekend trying to think of a topic. I haven't decided if I'm going to post it here as I go, so if I don't just understand that its because I am writing something really, really big and don't have time to spare writing something here.
This is a link to the 'what is..?' page for the contest. The idea, for those of you who don't like links, is that an awful lot of people all sign up and spend their month writing a novel, not using anything they've already written just things written in the given month, and try to reach a hundred and seventy five pages(50,000 words).
I will probably set it in the same universe as the rest of my writings, but it will be about different characters, events, and using different combinations of the words in my vocabulary(mostly, it's hard to not use things like 'He said' or 'I'm sorry' every now and then).
There's probably a prize, but I could care less. Wish me luck, and ask me how it's going some time.

This is my 200th post
Obvious milestone, and not much over a year since I started. We've got a few more readers than we did then, and I've certainly gotten better at writing since then.
Little known secret; while this is the 200th post published to the blog, it is in fact the 201st post written. Somewhere, there is a post that was not actually published until today. If you can name which book its in I'll try to come up with something special for you.

New search bar!
Added this feature to help with navigation, an issue I've had pointed out to me.
While not perfect, obviously having it listed by book rather than publish date would have been helpful, this feature should help new readers to navigate the blog.
As a general rule, Book one is just chapter X while book two is chapter X, 'title Y'.
Tag searches would have been nice, then a reverse chronology shift could have been used to set things in the appropriate order. Sadly I'm not a webdesigner, so designing an actual website like that would probably require is beyond my capacity; or for that matter budget, web space is probably more expensive than someone of my financial status could afford. Last thing I need is to have to pay to do this.

I do not know how my internet access will be over the next couple weeks, but I anticipate that at least 50% of the time I will be able to get up new chapters. I'm rather looking forward to this next section, the heroine is much less morally ambiguous than Kiera or Daniel, and much more religous.
On the note of religion I should point out that the Nielda are not normally a very religous race. In general characters like Gar or Tressa, at least in this last chapter, would be considered religous fanatics just for having any beliefs at all. During the time of the Junlaerd the priesthood of the light was purged(one of the downsides of being ruled by those in league with demons) and his reign was long enough that he managed to keep religion fairly well squashed until most people forgot about it. A minor revival took place during the Ga-Vok war as people started reading, and wondering about what would happen after they died.
The closest parallel to human christianity within the Nielda prior to their actual discovery of christianity was the belief that in the afterlife there would be some being who might have mercy on those who had been good. Wherein good was not decided by the deeds themselves, but by the motivation behind them. It should also be noted that the Great Ga-Vok war happened in and about 9-6 hundred BC, christianity did not actually exsist in any form at this point in time.
Also of note is Gar's weapon. He did not take it back from his daughter after she had slain the shade. Instead he taught her to use it and adopted the path of the scholarly mage for himself. The two of them did not remain on Anatolia, as we will see in the next installment.

brief interlude
I'll get back to chapter nine over the weekend, possibly even tomorrow. But for now I've had a wonderful idea and need to record it.
As a warning, I'm no artist. But sometimes I feel the need to make something; a tabard, ship, or weapon usually; visually, so that others can understand what I'm saying a bit better.
no color, but it would be leather on the lower white sections(dark brown), dark red(also leather) in black section, and metalic grey on the upper white sections, the light grey sections would be the color of whatever the wielder's clothing was.
it would be gemmed in the middle of the red(black) section; I have yet to decide what sort of gem, but a large emerald or saphire seems likely.
Stay with me here, I know this is complicated and rather silly.
The leather section is a glove, and the blades(metal sections) fold back.
The practicality of this weapon is quite questionable. It lacks the stable design of a Katar, and the deftness of a knife. However, like many of the weapons you will encounter in the Nieldic universe; this one is heavily enchanted. And it falls under the category of weapons that I refer to as 'artist's weapons'; things like nunchuks, double bladed swords, or anything attached to the end of a chain with no handle. These are the sorts of weapons that take years to become proficent with and are really more of a novelty than an actual weapon for the most part.
Magic users, however,love power. And novelties like this one usually have it.
This particular weapon belonged to an Nielda, A member of the Ukown Guild(Obi-Wan's warning about Mos-Eisley; only with more magic and considerably more organization) before the Ga-Vok wars. It's called 'zink's cleiden; or 'death's hand'. Not the most original name but the man who was best known for wielding it was not about to be overshadowed by a mere weapon.
I look horribly distracted, and just outright horrible in this picture. It's hard to look good while you operate a laptop's camera.

about chapter four
I'm going to go ahead and slap a PG-13 rating on that one for mild sexuality, mildly gratuitus(sp) blood, and minor character death.
I suppose that only counts as PG these days, but in my eyes; this is PG-13 at least.

note, and the game plan
I'm going to try dialogue in the next few installments. I'm warning any of you who might read this because I don't normally do dialogue. I always enjoyed backstory and a narrative perspective when I devloped the Nielda; and still do. That said, dialogue is much more interesting to read.
I'm an amateur; so please don't blame me when the result of this attempt is miles short of Tolkeinic fantasy or Asimovian Sci-Fi.
The game plan is to work semi-chronologically. I'll start with Daniel and the Anatolian resistance through phase three; a period lasting about sixty years and will probably take me a week at the minimum to do justice but may last as much as several months.
Then I will revert to Alicea and the Gascan resistance; which will probably not take as long but is equally important.
After that I will finally cover the epic phase seven; which really can not be told(partially because it will make more sense, and partially because no one could possibly be expected to care if they didn't understand the state of mind that exsisted in the major players at the time) until at least the Anatolian affairs are explained, though Alicea also plays an integral part. After that I'll sum up the state of affairs for both the Ga-Vok confederacy and Daniellandish empire at the end of the great war.

A new direction
I know it has been a while since I last updated; as I have been told on multiple occasions recently.
So I've decided to go in a somewhat different direction. Rather than posting a bunch of stuff about how I feel on a given day, or what kind of crazy stuff is happening; I'm going to begin attempting to log the happenings within what I like to refer to as 'the Nieldic Expanded Megaverse'.
Because this is a very considerable amount of what I think about, and has been for several years now, I'm going to have to ask you all to point out as soon as possible whenever I say something and you need an explanation. please refrain from making comments about any beliefs, morals, or related topics; this is an exercise in Role Play(RP) and a means by which I explore various possibilities, not necessarily an indication of what I believe. Also, no praise, It distracts me, inflates my ego, and is generally unproductive.

if you do know me, well just ignore the previous sentence.
there will be few if any pictures, mostly words. this is just a place for my random thoughts and ramblings. mostly so i can look back one day and say, "so that's what i was thinking"
i'm not always sure what i actually think so understand that these writings are neither endorsed or representative of what i think at any moment other than the one at which they were written.
that said enjoy the ride. i certainly hope i do.
